Primorskaya TPP connected to the regional power grid

A 110 kV switchyard was powered at Primorskaya TPP under construction in Kaliningrad Region. The switchyard will be used to deliver power from three power units into the power grid of the region.

The switchyard is connected to the 110 kV power system via a branch line from the VL 110 kV O-1 Tsentralnaya – O-52 Svetly high voltage power line. A reserve 25 MVA auxiliary transformer was put into operation in accordance with the design layout for the performance of commissioning works at the TPP. Thus the first stage of utility connection of Primorskaya TPP to JSC Yantarenergo power system was completed. Operational control of the equipment is performed remotely.

Structures with rigid busbars were used in the course of the 110 kV switchyard construction. The application of rigid busbars and advanced equipment made it possible to reduce the switchyard area by 30% in comparison with the standard layout and reduce the metal consumption and the amount of construction and installation works.

Primorskaya TPP with a total capacity of 195 MW will consist of three steam power plants with a unit capacity of 65 MW. Each power unit consists of a steam turbine manufactured by CJSC Ural Turbine Works (Yekaterinburg), a turbine-generator set (CJSC ELSIB, Novosibirsk) and a steam boiler (JSC Machine-Building Factory of Podolsk, Moscow Region).

Coal will be the primary fuel for Primorskaya TPP. The construction of the TPP will diversify the fuel balance of the Kaliningrad power system to reduce its technological dependency on natural gas supplies.

The construction project of Primorskaya TPP is managed by LLC Inter RAO – Management of Electric Power Plants. The general contractor is LLC Inter RAO – Engineering.
